Booth open March 8 – 26, 2021

As we continue to find ways to gather and play during the COVID-19 pandemic, GDC has given us a booth at the now-virtual GDC2021. From March 08 – 26, stop by on the GDC Swapcard app to see games made by folks from historically marginalized backgrounds from all over the world and experience the breadth of what games and play can be.

Meetings with Friendship Garden can be scheduled during the GDC event (March 15-19).

Phenomenal Games from our Community

afterHOURS by Bahiyya Khan, Claire Meekel, Tim Flusk, and Abi Meekel

after HOURS is a vignette, FMV game, that allows players a glimpse into the life of Lilith Gray – a young woman who was molested as a child and suffers from Borderline Personality Disorder as a result. By spending a night alone with Lilith in her bedroom and subsequently, her head, players learn Lilith’s story by adopting a double gaze: that of the player witnessing Lilith’s story and piecing together why she behaves and responds as she does and to an extent, the gaze of Lilith herself. This is achieved by having access to the voices in her head and the thoughts that respond to those voices. Hand drawn animations over the film serve to provide a more tactile experience of the game.

Al Camote by Acroviu
Al Camote (camote is sweet potato in Spanish) takes all the elements of the mafia lore and transforms them into a comic from the 60s. The goal is to present the game as if you were to find an old comic book in video game form.
Acroviu is based in Guatemala. We are always looking for new ways to play, experimenting with game mechanics to create something that hasn’t been done before.
Button City by Subliminal

Button City is a colorful low poly adventure game about cute animals and an arcade. Play as Fennel the fox as you explore a diorama world, play exciting arcade games, and meet cute animal friends. Explore a high-jinks story to save the arcade from a greedy fat cat who threatens to tear it down.

Subliminal is an independent game studio based in Albuquerque, New Mexico and co-founded by Shandiin and Ryan Woodward to create colorful and vibrant games with quirky mechanics.

Lord Winklebottom Investigates by Cave Monsters

It’s the 1920s and the world’s foremost detective is about to embark on his most challenging case yet. Thankfully, in this world that’s not quite like our own, there’s nobody better to crack the case than the great detective and gentleman giraffe, Lord Winklebottom.

Cave Monsters is currently a one-woman “studio” founded by Charlotte Sutherland, with a focus on creating unusual and quirky games. Having previously worked on AAA games (Little Big Planet 3, SEGA All-Stars Racing Transformed and the LEGO series), Lord Winklebottom Investigates is Charlotte’s first big independent project.
